DVD-R vs. DVD+R

I have had my computer for quite some time now. I got it from MBX over a year ago now and I have been extremely happy with it. I got a Plextor PX-504A DVD burner with it but never really bothered to use it until now. Actually, I tried using it in the past and it didn’t work, so I just kinda gave up on it for the time. Well, tonight I wanted to burn a bunch of shows that I have been recording watch to DVD and ran into the same problem. My burning software wasn’t recognizing that I had a DVD in the drive, but (duh) I did.

My sister and I were talking about it yesterday and she informed me that there was a difference between DVD+R/DVD+RW and DVD-R/DVD-RW and to check what I had, etc... Sure enough, I looked at the DVD’s I had and they were all DVD-R format. I opened my Plextor users manual and saw that it only supports writing DVD+R and DVD+RW format. As a computer nerd I really should have known the differences in the formats, but I simply didn’t (yeah, yeah, I know)…

ANYWAY, she sent me this really cool link and I learned all about them so I blogged thinking others might benefit…
